What we’ve BITTEN into lately…

18th January 2024 by Holly and Rachel Leave a Comment Best For, Blog, NewsCENTRAL OXFORD/ INDEPENDENTS/ NEWS/ Oxford/ OXFORDSHIRE/ pub/ restaurant

Every month, we’ll give you a rundown of the dishes/snacks/drinks the Bitten team have enjoyed and where you can find them to experience for yourselves. We’d love to hear in the comments what the best things you’ve bitten into recently have been..?

Faith – Arbequina, Cowley Road

This caramelised/burnt sugar manchego from Arbequina was an absolute treat – slices of slightly tangy cheese with a crême brulée topping. What’s not to love?! It was so good that we ordered an extra plate.

Chiara – Table 13, Wheatley

This is the mince pie doughnut by clever clever Georgia at Table 13. I haven’t shut up about this since I put it in my mouth and likely won’t for a good while. A perfect twist of sweet and savoury, crispy and soft. Impossible not to lick your lips after one of these bad boys!

Nicola – Grounded Kitchen, Headington

The Fire chicken bowl was perfect for a cold, rainy day takeaway dinner. The bowl is very wholesome and well filled with chicken, rice, tons of vegetables, and most importantly, it had a lovely spicy kick. Highly recommend 🤤

Holly – Salt Pig Curing

One of the most memorable meals we had in December was actually at home, thanks to Salt Pig Curing. A relative purchased a large gift box from Salt Pig Curing which included five sliced cured meat packs including Garlic and Pepper Salami, Spiced Loin, Smoked Air Dried Ham, Four Peppercorn Collar, Smoked Air Dried Belly, and two spreadable salamis SaltPig Sobrasada and Cotswold ‘Nduja. We paired the meat with a selection of cheeses from Cotswold’s Cheese Company in Burford and made a grazing board at home for five of us to share. This is the perfect gift for any food lover. It was my first time trying Sobrasada and it had a lovely flavour, less spicy than ‘Nduja with a slight kick of chilli and a red pepper flavour, perfect on a slice of Sourdough.

James – George Street Social, Oxford

James is in pursuit of the best burger for our upcoming guide, this is one from George Street Social! The burger was a bit sloppy, but came with fab, fluffy chips! Keep an eye on our socials to see where ranks highest for the best burger in Oxford.

What new places or plates have you discovered lately? We’d love to hear your recommendations, drop them in the comments!
