POV: I tried the Guilty Pleasures menu before you did
It was such a pleasure to be invited to Six By Nico’s Supper Club, ahead of the launch of their next tasting menu: Guilty Pleasures! This menu is only available for 3-weeks!
This intimate Supper Club was honestly a brilliant idea- working in marketing & comms, all I can say is, well played!
Let’s get into these guilty pleasures.
As you can imagine, if I talked about each course, we’d be here till the cows come home. Instead, I will give you an overview of the night and let you go and try it for yourself!
The evening kicked off with the special aperitif; strawberry cheesecake spritz.
I was not expecting it to be served the way it was. When I hear spritz, I imagine a sort of goblet/ spritz glass! Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. You can’t go wrong with Bailey’s, honestly. However, I wish I’d had this towards the end of the meal. It was definitely more of a dessert cocktail.
My favourite were the Cheesy beano croquettes.
Croquettes are my weakness and I could have eaten about 10 of these. Doused in parmesan, even though this was one of the snack options, I think it might have been my favourite.
I am slowly trying to work towards the status of croquette connoisseur.
My other favourites were the loaded potato skin, the breakfast muffin, and the dessert. Beautiful flavours.
I swapped the fish finger butty option for the bolognese on the vegetarian menu. This was made with fregola which is a type of pasta originating from Sardegna. Having never had fregola before, I am glad I had the chance to try it but, it was not my cup of tea.
Before going, I was most excited to try the Nico fried chicken (NFC)!
I can’t quite put my finger on it but this was the dish I enjoyed least. From the crumb to the black garlic emulsion, I found the various flavours and elements too overwhelming and overly rich.
I would not be being true to my sweet-toothed self if I held back on the dessert deets!
One word: incredible. I was expecting a sugar overload but it was so well-balanced and the raspberries were the perfect fruit choice to elevate the dish and neutralise the sugar.
Devoured it. The custard was not thick, which I was not expecting but I loved it either way. The ideal final course- it might be my joint-favourite with the croquettes.
As someone who is not much of a wine drinker, I must commend the wine pairing options. Very well-picked for each dish. The stand-out ones were the Malbec, served with the NFC, and the Grains de Plasir with the dessert. A sweet wine that is not overwhelming on your palette is a DREAM!
Thank you so much for having me and looking after me so well!
This was my second time visiting Six By Nico. I had just been for the Amalfi menu and my main feedback point was that I left very hungry. However, this was not the case this time. I think due to having the wine pairing with each dish (I had not opted for this when I went for the Amalfi menu). It definitely helps fill you up- something to bear in mind!
Everyone was so lovely, very attentive service! We even had a chance to meet the chef, which is always a bonus.
Don’t forget, this menu is only available for 3 weeks so make your bookings asap!
