Nestled within the picturesque Cornwell Estate in Chipping Norton, Good Gathers is a seasonal pop-up restaurant curated by Ross & Ross Events. Running from June through September, this hidden gem offers an idyllic setting for enjoying delicious food, all while supporting a great cause—all profit is donated to FarmED, an organisation dedicated to educating people about regenerative farming.
As you approach this tucked-away haven, you’ll drive through tall, swaying Miscanthus grass, a prelude to the serene atmosphere that awaits. The dining area, outfitted with deck chairs, parasols, and rustic wooden tables, is a perfect spot to unwind. Whether you’re there to relax with friends or gather the family for a weekend feast, Good Gathers provides the ideal backdrop for a memorable summer evening, complete with stunning views and mellow tunes.
The menu is thoughtfully crafted to cater to a wide range of tastes and dietary preferences. Meat lovers will be delighted by options like the 20-day dry-aged sirloin steak, perfectly cooked and served with garlic butter, home-grown potatoes, and a heritage tomato salad. Vegetarians and gluten-free diners are equally well-catered for, with dishes like slow-baked aubergine and feta or the BBQ beetroot flatbread standing out as vibrant, flavorful choices. If you’re in the mood for something lighter, the selection of wood-fired pizzas, also available for takeaway, won’t disappoint.
During my visit, I indulged in the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich, a delectable creation featuring smoked chipotle mayo, pickled shallots, and fresh lettuce. The chicken was tender and flavoursome, though I would have preferred a bit more crispiness. To accompany my meal, I enjoyed a glass of Esprit Rosé 2023 for just £6— a perfect refreshing light pairing for a warm summer evening.
For those seeking a heartier option, the GG smashed burger, topped with American cheese, crispy onions, and smoky bacon crumb, comes highly recommended. And the BBQ board looked like an absolute must-try. Priced at £22, it’s a feast featuring gochujang chicken, 10-hour slow-roasted coffee-rubbed beef, BBQ pork ribs, GG potatoes, and house slaw—an impressive spread.
The service at Good Gathers is prompt and friendly. After ordering at the drinks bar, we were pleasantly surprised by how quickly our food arrived—almost as soon as we had sat down! Reservations are advised, especially as most tables are often booked in advance. However, if you’re happy to lounge under a parasol with a drink in hand, seats do tend to free up later in the evening.
As the sun sets over the wild meadow, casting a golden glow over the estate, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect setting for a summer meal. With its laid-back atmosphere, great food, and commitment to a worthy cause, Good Gathers is more than just a restaurant—it’s a destination. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience it before the season ends.
