If you are looking for a Sunday roast sharer, The Store is the place to go.
Located where the iconic Boswells used to be, The Store is Oxford’s newest hotel and has been open for a little over a month now. We were kindly invited to try their Sunday Roast menu at their restaurant, the Treadwell!
Sophisticated and luxurious – these are the words that come to mind when I think of the hotel’s interiors.
A few things to mention, you can only order the Sunday roast sharer option which is charged per head. The family-style serving is great; the meat option is roast chicken accompanied by a different red meat option for that week. You can’t pick the meats so do bear that in mind!
On to the meal
Kicked off with cocktails including a Mojito and Daquiri. Sadly, both did not live up to my expectations. The Mojito tasted more like a spirit with a mixer. The Daquiri did not have the right balance of flavours. Given the cocktail menu is limited and each is priced at £16, I had higher expectations.
Starters were lush! We had the pulled brisket & Ogleshield croquettes served with chimichurri and chargrilled octopus, roja sauce, and citrus apple salad.
Those croquettes now live in my head rent-free!
They were delicious and the chimichurri was stunning! I absolutely LOVE chimichurri. The octopus roja sauce was a beauty with a perfectly balanced spicy kick, but the octopus itself was overcooked and on the rubbery side.
PS: I recommend getting starters as the roast does take a a fair amount of time to prepare.
Now this is what I call a roast!
On this occasion, the roast consisted of chicken and lamb. It comes with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, and gratin. The portion was massive and I definitely underestimated it (spoiler alert, I needed a takeaway box).
I really enjoyed the sage and pancetta stuffing! It was so beautiful and given my love of pancetta, I was a happy girl.
The potatoes were perfect too- so crispy on the outside and beautifully fluffy on the inside. There was no way we were going to be able to finish all of this, leftovers were inevitable.
Let’s not kid ourselves, we all know I had room for dessert.
We went for the sticky toffee pudding with whiskey sauce & raspberry and lemon sorbets.
The sticky toffee pudding was lovely and the whiskey in the sauce added a unique kick to the flavour. Despite not being a fan of whiskey at all, it was delicious.
Overall, this was a solid meal.
Huge portions and good service, everyone was friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in. Thank you to everyone who looked after us! It’s definitely on the pricier side and would not be your causal go-to roast on a Sunday. However, great for a treat!
7.5/10 rating from me!
