Review: The Feathered Nest

5th August 2024 by Chiara Nunzet Leave a Comment AD - Invite, Blog, NewsINDEPENDENTS/ Oxford/ OXFORDSHIRE/ pub/ REVIEW

My new obsession is finding beautiful dog walks that just happen to end right by a lovely pub or restaurant, so when The Feathered Nest invited us to try their Sunday menu, I immediately looked up which walks we could do before our meal.

Unfortunately, we got a little lost on this particular walk so only did half of it, but what really mattered is we arrived in perfect time for our meal, and WHAT a setting.

We were sat right on the edge of the terrace, meaning views of the rolling Cotswold hills greeted us. The sun was shining and we were hungry and ready.

While we were perusing the menu, we were brought some delicious croquettes. A snack to eat for while you decide what more to eat – genius?!

We also gave in to the offer of bread with flavoured butter – marmite and sea salt. The mini loaves were warm and crusty, and watching the butter melt into their pillowy middles had me drooling. The butters were whipped and ridiculously moreish.

We both opted for fish for starters.

I ordered the ceviche – soft, jelly-like pillows accompanied by mango and red onion which added the zingiest zing in all the land of zinginess. Charlie went for the tuna tartare, the pieces were chunky, fresh and zesty. Though, quite a teeny portion for the price.

Onto the mains…

I stayed with fish for my main and Charlie had the 28-day dry aged roasted beef sirloin. We shared roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese. My fish dish was very tasty, topped with capers which is always a win in my eyes. The prawns that came with it were juicy and fresh, and the vegetables cooked very well.

Direct quote from Charlie ‘possibly one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had in a while.’ which is a big deal as we take our roasts quite seriously.

We didn’t have any room for dessert sadly, so will have to pop back soon (and get the walk right this time!). The Feathered Nest also have bookable rooms and a cottage, and have recently started a Sunday night pizza night, with live music!

I’d say overall, a lovely meal in a stunning setting and could imagine spending all day and evening in the garden with those views. Not the most budget-friendly of menus, so deffo save up the pennies first, or book for a special occasion.
