Review: Brunch at The Rickety Press

29th January 2024 by Chiara Nunzet Leave a Comment AD - Invite, Blog, NewsBRUNCH/ CENTRAL OXFORD/ INDEPENDENTS/ JERICHO/ Oxford/ restaurant/ REVIEW

I’m sure you’ll all already be well-versed in the beauty that is the Dodo Pub group. Great pizzas, burgers and beers dotted around Oxford. If you don’t know – get to know!

Well, our beloved Dodo pubs have expanded their menu and it now includes BRUNCH! Hooray! That’s right baby, basic bitches unite – there’s a new place to brunch. Though this place is far from basic, the chilled, laid back and cosy vibes are perfect for a lazy weekend morning outing.

The menu has a good variety of options without it being overwhelming, including brunch buns, a brunch pizzetta (wowing!) and some yummy things on toast. I went with my partner and a friend, and we all opted for the buns: they went for the Sunnyside and Morning Glory, and I went for Let’s ‘Av It – I added a sausage patty to mine – naughty!

General consensus – deeelicious.

The Let’s ‘Av It comes with smashed avo, halloumi and chipotle ketchup. I have to say the avo was a little bit too salty for me, but the halloumi and chipotle ketchup was a match made in heaven. The perfect zingy kick. The buns were pillowy soft but sturdy enough to hold all the filling.

I’m not an egg gal myself but the other two were delighted as their perfectly cooked egg yolks burst and joined the other ingredients in a perfect, yolky smooth harmony. The Morning Glory was described as a ‘posh McMuffin’ (huge compliment as we love a Maccies in our house!) and my friend who went for the Early Bird absolutely loved the hot honey addition, it blended beautifully with the other flavours and was a welcomed sweet drizzly treat.

You can add Hash Brown Nuggies as a side, so naturally we ordered two portions of these because ‘eyes bigger than your stomach’ and all that. They were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffly on the inside – dangerously more-ish.

As always, there’s a good selection of drinks available including Dodo’s own on tap. After a very boozy December I opted for a soft drink but my partner Charlie went for a pint of Dodo Black and was impressed, smooth and fresh.

An added bonus is all Dodo pubs are dog friendly! Little Moose was given his own little water bowl and offered lots of treats. 10/10 doggo service.

Overall I’d definitely have a Dodo brunch again. A great spot to catch up with mates in a relaxed and homely setting.

I’d be keen to know if you’ve been and what you thought? Let us know in the comments!
