Invite: Scenic Supper

21st June 2022 by Chiara Nunzet Leave a Comment AD - Invite, Blog, NewsCOTSWOLDS/ INDEPENDENTS/ Oxford/ OXFORDSHIRE/ restaurant/ REVIEW

I was lucky enough to be invited along to the Scenic Supper. A unique dining experience with a view across the Cotswolds – scenic indeed!

Guests gets their own little chic dining pod, with views for days across the Cotswold countryside. This is somewhere you could spend hours, which is exactly what we did. A real switch-off and soak it all in vibe.

The decor is a very natural and fresh vibe, which suits the surrounding views perfectly. It was quite a warm day so we didn’t need them, but there were blankets laid out in case you got chilly, as well as a fan if it got too hot. They’d really thought of everything.

When it comes to the food, there are a couple of options. There’s an a la carte menu, a 6-course set menu for £65pp, a 4-course set menu for £55pp (both set menus available as vegeterian as well), and a Sunday menu. We went for the 4-course set menu and no, we were not disappointed.

There’s also a wide range of freshly made cocktails (highly recommend the rhubarb shrub!) as well as beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options.

You know you’re in for a good meal when the initial bread and butter that’s brought out already has you sinking into your chair with delight. Olive bread with a fresh, bright green, herb butter to slather all over it – yes please.

This was followed by a tomato gazpacho with sourdough croutons, cucumber, and sweet and sour tomatoes. I’ve never understood gazpacho before this – a cold soup?! But I fully get it now. I got a real fresh, healthy and juicy hit of deep tomato flavour when eating it, one that doesn’t come with a warm dish. The perfect intro to the rest of the dishes.

Next up was a wild nettle gnocchi with wild garlic veloute and morels. Absolutely delicious. Creamy yet light, fresh yet comforting. Only thing I’d change is I’d like a bucket of it next time.

The next dish was belly of pork, accompanied by smoked fennel puree, kohlrabi and pickled mustard seeds. Again, delicious. The creamy and decadent puree was the perfect addition to the pork and brought all the flavours together.

The sweet dish was strawberries served with vanilla custard and lavender ice cream. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about lavendar ice cream but it was stunning- just a hint of floral and it made the strawberries even sweeter. A really lovely dish to freshen up the palate.

The cheese plate (£12) is an optional extra for the set menus, so of course we couldn’t resist. It was made up of strong selection of cheeses that rounded off the meal perfectly.

If you can’t already tell, yes I would recommend booking in here as soon as you can. It’s perfect for a celebration, date night, or just catching up with friends. It’s adorned with fairy lights so can imagine an evening visit to be really special too.
