Review: Rickety Press Sunday Roast

21st April 2026 by Chiara Nunzet Leave a Comment AD - Invite, BlogBEERS/ INDEPENDENTS/ JERICHO/ Oxford/ pub/ REVIEW/ roast dinner

You may have read Holly’s previous review of the Sunday Roast when it launched at the Part and Parcel (if not – read here) and thought damn that looks good, when is that coming to Oxford? Well, it has officially landed at the Rickety Press in Jericho and boy are we happy about it.

We’re big fans of the Dodo Pubs here at Bitten, they strike the perfect balance of chilled, fun and affordable vibes, without scrimping on quality or service. You’re always met with a friendly face, and the food doesn’t disappoint.

So when I was invited down to try out the roast, who was I to argue. We went for a nice big dog walk across Port Meadow just before, so we’d worked up an appetite (and Moose was very jealous).

There are a couple of options:

  • Roast Beef Rump
  • Slow Roast Porchetta
  • Whole Roast Chicken
  • Butternut Squash Wellington

All are served with roasties, yorkies, veggies and gravy, and all under £18, which is a bloody good deal (I saw a roast out in the country recently that would set you back £35 – crazy!).

You can also add cauliflower cheese and extra roasties or yorkies. Lush. We went for the beef and the pork – the chicken had already sold out, which is good for them, sad for us. We’ll definitely be going back to try it.

Both meats were really well cooked, well seasoned and demolished by us. The porchetta was especially noteworthy – it’s not an easy thing to get right and they’ve smashed it. It all felt really high quality and like a lot of care and prep had gone into the flavours. The gravy was gorgeous, could’ve drunk it. The veggies were nice and crunchy (I love buttered greens with a roast!). The potatoes could’ve been a little more crispy on outside, fluffy on inside, but overall this was a banging roast.

We couldn’t resist going for the cauli cheese, which was also stunning. Creamy, crispy gorgeousness. You prob only need one between 2 – 3 of you, as it’s pretty filling on top of the generous roast plate, but deffo recommend trying it.

We were convinced to get the hot cookie dough with ice cream, despite being pretty full we gave in. One to share was the perfect little sweet treat before our walk home. Gooey hot cookie, cold vanilla ice cream. You can’t go wrong.

We washed all the food down with a Dodo Lager and Dodo APA – which always go down a treat. Petition to bring back Dodo Black still going – she’s sorely missed by my partner, Charlie.

Overall this was a banging roast, I’ll definitely be back I highly recommend going for a big walk with a group of people you like, and booking in here for after. A few pints and a good roast sets you up for a very good week I reckon. I hope they roll it out at The Rusty Bike soon – it’s my local so would be dreamy.
