Review: Bigfoot

8th October 2024 by Nicola Barretto Leave a Comment Blog, NewsCENTRAL OXFORD/ EAST OXFORD/ INDEPENDENTS/ Oxford/ REVIEW/ TACOS

Do you ever get a random craving that you just cannot explain? That has been me recently with tacos! The good thing is, I get to satisfy my cravings and provide content (you’re welcome, Bitten audience).

I’ve been hearing quite a lot about Bigfoot Oxford over the past few months, and I finally decided to get it off the list. Bigfoot is located on Cowley Road and is a cute spot for tacos and cocktails – simple yet satisfying. It is quite a small venue but luckily when we stopped by, there was space! We loved the decor, very trendy and colouful. The music was also on point – super chilled vibes, we forgot to ask for the playlist and regretting it massively!

Let’s get into it!

Tacos are £2.50 each (a dream, I know) and cocktails are £10.

I went for a spicy margarita cocktail with two carnitas tacos: braised pork shoulder with pineapple salsa, and one barbacoa taco: braised beef shin with salsa roja.

P.S. I did later end up ordering one more carnitas taco, cause this gal was hungry!

We also couldn’t resist getting some chips and dips! Felt like a rite of passage (decent portion too!)

Cocktail time

I do love a spicy marg! This one was good but as they use mezcal and not tequila, I found it a little too overwhelming. I’m not the biggest fan of the smoky flavour but this would be great for any mezcal lovers!

Chiara and Gemma both went for the ‘big froot’ cocktail: mezcal, campari, fresh grapefruit, lemon and agave and both loved it – super refreshing and dangerously drinkable. Definitely on the strong side, but who’s complaining?!

Taco time!

The carnitas taco (pork) was the winner for me.

It was SO tasty and juicy! That pineapple salsa was the perfect sweet yet sharp addition and really hit the spot. Pickled red onions always add the perfect punch too. I didn’t really enjoy the barbacao (beef) taco as much, as I found it rather bland and not as well balanced as the carnitas taco.

Chiara and Gemma tried the veggie tacos as well – the nopales (re-fried beans, cheese, nopales cactus, salsa roja, coriander) and the mushroom (miso glazed shitake mushroom, jalapeno crema, spring onions). Both were great flavour combos, but anything miso wins so the mushroom is the veggie winner!

Sadly, Bigfoot don’t currently offer desserts but luckily, G&Ds is right next door so we could satisfy our sweet teeth easily.

Bigfoot is a such a cosy spot and is ideal for a quick, budget meal (cocktails may make it less budget, but worth it!). A great place to go with a group of pals to catch up, or for a chilled date night vibe.
