A Hidden Gem on the High Street
Nestled at the heart of Eynsham on 1 High Street, The Corner House recently celebrated its first anniversary, marking a year of bringing the community together with its simple, yet delicious approach to food. Run by Jimmy Rossiter, this small but mighty spot has quickly become a beloved fixture, offering a cosy, intimate experience that’s as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food.
One of the standouts at The Corner House is the counter selection, which regularly features a couple of different focaccias.
These are a perfect balance of texture—light, airy, and delightfully salty without being greasy—paired with delicious ingredients. Some fan-favourites include the salami with aioli, tomato, olive, and rocket; the roast cauliflower with green sauce, garlic yoghurt, and pickled chilli; and the chorizo with roast pepper, aioli, and rocket. Each bite brings out the vibrant, fresh flavours that keep locals and visitors coming back for more.
Accompanying the focaccia, there’s always a lovely range of salads to choose from.
One of my personal favourites included cauliflower, pomegranate seeds and mint.
On a recent visit, I was lucky enough to enjoy a slice of charred corn, tomato, feta, and pickled chilli frittata—an absolute must-try for anyone seeking something hearty yet light.
The Corner House often leans towards offering savoury options, but you can’t go wrong with one of their indulgent dark chocolate and sea salt cookies. These decadent treats perfectly toe the line between rich and not-too-sweet, making them a dangerously tempting addition to your visit.
As they enter their second year, The Corner House continues to be a food lover’s dream, focusing on doing a few things very, very well.
Open only Wednesday to Friday, with the occasional evening pop-up, it’s a space you’ll want to mark on your calendar.
