Review: Beefy Boys, Westgate, Oxford

20th October 2025 by Holly and Rachel Leave a Comment AD - Invite, BlogBURGERS/ CENTRAL OXFORD/ LAUNCH/ NEW SPOTS/ Oxford/ REVIEW

You’d probably need to be living under a rock to have missed the news: Beefy Boys have arrived at the Westgate.

The buzz started before the official launch, and by the time they opened, word was already spreading fast. Naturally, we couldn’t wait to check it out for ourselves. We’re big fans of a burger, especially a smashed one, and these guys have the credentials to back up their reputation. As co-founder Dan explained,

“Really drunk 14 years ago, we entered a burger competition and we won it. Then we entered a burger competition in Las Vegas and came second in the world, and that’s what led to us being here.”

That humble, cheeky origin story pretty much sums up the spirit of Beefy Boys. They “love dirty burgers, loaded fries, cocktails, and boozy milkshakes.” and they’re not shy about it.

With 19 burgers on the main menu, choosing just one could be a mission, but we were lucky enough to be handed a couple to sample.

Based on what we tasted, it’s hard to imagine making a bad choice here.

The burgers are juicy, messy, and full of flavour, with perfectly melted cheese and a soft brioche bun holding it all together. They taste every bit as naughty as they look.

We also tried the Mac and Cheese Balls, which hit all the right notes – crisp on the outside, gooey and cheesy inside, pure comfort food.

To top things off, we sampled a few mini versions of the boozy milkshakes, including Tiramisu and Espresso Martini flavours, as well as the Beanu milkshake. Expect plenty of whipped cream and pure indulgence.

But it’s not just about the food. The vibe is what sets Beefy Boys apart from your average burger joint. This is the kind of place you come to with friends to hang out, fuel up, and maybe start your night out. It’s high-energy and packed with personality, from the graffiti-covered walls to the cheeky photos of the Beefy Boys crew having fun.

The whole space feels like a party – relaxed and full of character.

For anyone still missing Atomic Burger and the creativity it brought to Oxford, Beefy Boys fills that gap with its own brand of fun and flavour. The staff were friendly, enthusiastic, and clearly enjoying being part of the buzz.

By the end of the evening, we were officially fan girls. Beefy Boys has brought its big energy, bold flavours, and cheeky charm to the Westgate – and Oxford’s all the better for it.
