Every month, we’ll give you a rundown of the dishes/snacks/drinks the Bitten team have enjoyed and where you can find them to experience for yourselves. We’d love to hear in the comments what the best things you’ve bitten into recently have been..?
Faith – Tse Noodle, Ship Street, Oxford
This prawn wanton dumpling noodle dish from Tse Noodle was definitely worth the queue outside in the cold! The delicious broth hid an absolute mountain of noodles. It’s a tiny restaurant so don’t expect much elbow space, and bear in mind it’s cash only.
Chiara – Wilding, Little Clarendon Street
My pick is the Halibut with truffle ravioli, with grapefruit dressing and samphire that I had whilst attending Wildling’s recent Truffle and Barolo night. If the description of the dish hasn’t already got you salivating, then I can assure you this dish was bursting with flavour, the fish melted in the mouth and the ravioli were perfect plump pockets bursting with truffle. I’m DROOLING just writing this, I want it all over again!
Rob – Jericho Cafe, Walton Street
The best nourishment this month was the healthier breakfast option at the legendary Jericho Cafe. Not only is the North Peruvian single estate, organic coffee unbeatable (directly sourced from Guillermo Corrina in Peru & then roasted by Missing Bean in Magdalen Rd), the toasted banana bread topped with fresh Greek Yoghurt, forest fruits compote and drizzled in maple syrup, is the perfect start to any morning.
Liz – Hamblin Bread, Iffley Road
The dark, cold days of winter require lots of baked goods, so I took a little trip to the wonderful Hamblin to stock up on bread and cakes. Their sourdough and cardamom buns can’t be beaten, but did you also know how insanely good their sandwiches are? The combination of top-quality bread and delicious filling in just the right balance: the perfect lunch spot.
Nicola – Bbuona
As a tiramisu lover, I can’t recommend this one enough! Bbuona import the tiramisu which is made in Italy and sent over every two days! This means it’s made with all the best Italian ingredients.
Extremely light and the flavours were really well balanced. This is a must-try, a truly beautiful tiramisu!
Holly – The Bell at Sapperton
A bit further afield than we’d normally include here but trust me, the Bell is worth making a special trip out to. This was one of the best meals I’ve had this year. These lemon, pepper, and maple chicken wings were the best wings I’ve ever tasted! The photo doesn’t do this any justice, the wings were crunchy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside and drowned in the most mouth-tingling sauce – a punchy citrus kick with the savoury punch of pepper and the sweetness and stickiness of the maple! We’ve since re-created these at home but we’ll be making the journey back to have the real deal again very soon.
