Summer round-up with Nicola

26th September 2025 by Nicola Barretto Leave a Comment Best For, Blog, NewsOxford/ restaurant/ Summer

Anyone else miss summer already?

As summer officially comes to an end, I thought I would take you through some of my eats and drinks from the last few months, which could inspire you to start putting together your summer 2026 list!

Tiramisu Gelato- Swoon

If you are a tiramisu lover like I am, you can’t go wrong with the tiramisu gelato from Swoon.

My general issue with tiramisu gelato in most places is that all you can taste is coffee, but with this one, you get pieces of the savoiardi biscuit (lady fingers) as it should have, and a proper tiramisu flavour.

A must try! Their pistachio is also very good, but once I find something I love, I struggle to order anything else.

Pork Belly Bites- The Port Mahon

Ever since I first tried these, it was love at first sight. The sauce used to coat the pork belly literally makes my mouth water.

The pork belly pieces are cooked well and are a great sharing option for the table.

Been back at least 3 times after my first visit, and they are yet to disappoint.

Daim Bar Crunch Ice Cream- G&D Cafe

G&D is an Oxford classic, and even though my favourite ice cream from here is the speculoos (which they sadly never seem to have when I go in), my second favourite is definitely the Daim Bar Crunch.

The best part is their scoops are very generous and good value for money. If you are more of a sorbet fan, they have a great range of flavours too.

Margherita Pizza- Bbuona

If you can’t be in a piazza in Italy eating pizza, you might as well be at Bbuona.

Using authentic Italian ingredients, Bbuona’s margherita pizza is just so good. Sometimes the simple option is the best, and you will not go wrong with the margherita, with buffalo mozzarella on top.

This one all comes down to the tomato sauce and the quality of the tomatoes themselves- buonissimo!

Hugo Spritz- The Varsity Club

Cocktails at sunset on a rooftop- it’s a bit of me.

The Varisty Club has been a summer favourite of mine in Oxford for a while now. There is something about sitting on a rooftop in summer that hits different.

A Hugo spritz is always my cocktail of choice. Despite this not being the best Hugo spritz I have tried (it felt light on the elderflower), it’s all about the view and the vibes for me.

It has been a beautiful summer

You have no idea how sad I am to see summer ending, but it has been a good one.

What have been your summer highlights of 2025?

See you next summer (at least for summer content)!
