When Steamhouse opened in Oxford last year, their famous bagels quickly hit our foodie radar. So when we heard they’d landed at UE Coffee Roasters in Witney—one of our favorite coffee stops—we finally got the chance to dig in.
Steamhouse’s full menu, spanning brunch bites to bagel classics, is now available alongside UE’s excellent coffee, making it a promising addition to the local scene.
We started with The Hendrix (£12.95), a panko-breaded chicken breast layered with smoky cheese, whipped avocado, pickled shallots, rocket, and a slathering of Sriracha mayo. We also tried The Big Win (v) (£12.50), a veggie delight of seasoned smashed avocado, crispy halloumi, homemade caramelized onion chutney, and folded free-range eggs. Each bagel comes with a side of seasoned hash brown tots, and we can confirm they were a win—mini hash browns, served piping hot and impeccably seasoned. We were hooked enough to come back just for these crispy gems!
Now, the bagels themselves.
Both were tasty, but we found ourselves wishing for bolder flavours, especially in The Hendrix. The chicken was crunchy but double-layered, leaving a few bites of bagel with no filling at all. The avocado and toppings, while fresh, felt a bit under-seasoned. Even the signature pretzel bagel itself—good, but not game-changing.
The prices place Steamhouse on the higher end for a casual lunch, but there are other enticing options that might warrant a return trip, like the Hometown Honey or their take on the Philly Cheesesteak. We’re also eyeing their French toast, which looked fantastic, and there are plenty of veggie options on the menu too.
All in all, Steamhouse at UE Coffee Roasters might not have fully lived up to the hype for us, but it’s an enjoyable spot for a quick bite, with quality coffee and a friendly vibe. Plus, UE is dog-friendly—a definite bonus for foodies on the hunt for a dog friendly brunch spot.
