Review: The Galaxie Hotel, Summertown

15th March 2024 by Nicola Barretto Leave a Comment AD - Invite, Blog, NewsBREAKFAST/ HOTEL/ INDEPENDENTS/ Oxford/ REVIEW/ SUMMERTOWN

A weekend away at a hotel is a different kind of self-care, and I think we all need more of these. Now, let’s talk about the hotel itself and my stay!

I was so excited and grateful to have been invited to the recently refurbished Galaxie Hotel, located on Banbury Road.

The hotel offers bed and breakfast options which means for other meals you’ll need to venture out but the upside is that it is right in the heart of Summertown and a stone’s throw from Oxford City Centre, so you are not short of options! The hotel also has a gym for all the gym-goers out there.

Firstly, I must say that the interiors of the hotel are beautiful!

A mix of deep dark shades with a spark of colour keeps the interiors bright and vibrant. The style is modern but with a quirky twist that gives it a traditional, old-time English feel (this is my best description but thankfully, I have photos to put this into perspective)!

Sam, the General Manager, was an absolute delight throughout the entire visit. Super friendly and he really went out of his way to make sure everything was in place. His hospitality truly added to the overall experience.

To the room!

The room was very cosy and the bed was super comfy. I loved that the bathroom was a generous size as sometimes hotel bathrooms can be the size of a shoe box. One thing that I did notice that could be improved is that there wasn’t anywhere to hang or store your clothes. As a visit here would most likely be one to two nights – I personally do not like leaving everything in my suitcase.

After a good night’s sleep, we headed down for the continental breakfast. The breakfast setting is stunning! The glass house with the interiors is really beautiful and left me with a calm feeling as I sat for breakfast. It would make such a gorgeous lunch and dinner venue- hopefully this is something they can offer in the future!

Breakfast is a buffet that includes both hot and cold options. I recommend going for breakfast earlier to avoid having to wait for the hot stuff to be topped up.

The cold section has an array of cereals, granola, juices, croissants, and various fruits, while the hot section has bacon, sausages, eggs, shakshuka, and tomatoes.

Your standard breakfast options were all available.

Pick-n-mix in a hotel? Heaven!

Most importantly, before I wrap up, the hotel has a pick-n-mix sweet selection for you to help yourself to! Both ideal and the worst nightmare situation for a sweet tooth!

Overall, the location is perfect, the interiors are stunning, it has a nice cosy feel and Sam the GM is an absolute delight!

Galaxie Hotel – thank you so much for having us!
