You might have noticed over the last year that the covered market has seen some changes and updates, the latest of which has brought a slice of the USA to our Victorian market.
Oxford Dogs serves classic American-style hot dogs, which you can pair with one of their flavoured milkshakes. Perfect for a lunch-time treat or to grab after work, you can choose from a few different syles with sauces galore.

The first decision you have to make is between a French hot dog, which is wrapped in pastry, or their Big hot dogs, which are what you would classically think of as a hot dog. I went classic as I wanted the full experience but their french dogs start at the reasonable price of £3.99. I decided to go for the Cheese Dog where you could choose between a chicken (halal) or pork sausage (there are no veggie sausage options on their menu), served with sauce of your choosing, melted cheese, pickle and crispy onion.
Coming in at £11.99 it was one of the more expensive items on the menu, but the portion size does not disappoint. There were many sauces to choose from: mayo, BBQ, mustard, garlic, sriracha, 1000 island, ketchup and american and you can add as many as you like to whatever you order. I opted for BBQ and 1000 island which were both great.

I got the pork hot dog which itself was very flavourful and I love pickles so was very happy to see them on the menu.
However, the cheese was the american-style cheese sauce which I am not the biggest fan of so was slightly disappointed by that, however that is a personal taste and if you are into that american-style then this is the place for you. This cheese sauce is also what they use on their nachos where it plays a much more central role and unfortunately it ruined the nachos for me. On the nachos you get crispy onions and jalapenos as well as sauces galore, and I am a sucker for garlic sauce on any sort of fried potato and I am glad we got that on the nachos as the flavours worked really well.

To go with the hot dog and nachos I got a chocolate milkshake which was nice and easy to drink although slightly on the runny side for me, I prefer my milkshakes thicker and creamier than what Oxford Dogs served me – again a personal preference.
Overall, Oxford Dogs brings something new and different to the covered market, offering an ideal grab-and-go snack or tasty mid-week lunch indulgence.

I appreciate they’re a new business, but I think they’re missing a huge opportunity not doing veggie dogs. I’d drop the nachos and shakes and add a veg option and drinks like coke floats and cream soda.
Thanks for your feedback! We actually do offer vegan hot dogs – they’ve been available for some time now. Always happy to hear ideas though, and we’ll keep your suggestions in mind!
