Review: Bigfoot

28th November 2025 by Sofia Dellasala Leave a Comment BlogDEALS/ EAST OXFORD/ INDEPENDENTS/ Oxford/ REVIEW/ TACOS/ WINTER

Now that we are fully into autumn, the leaves have turned, the pumpkins have been carved, you may be missing the long summer evenings and relaxed vibes that warm nights can bring. In particular, an establishment I am always sad to see go when autumn rolls in is the Medley in Port Meadow. Open only in summer, it offers great food and drinks, in a laidback atmosphere on the banks of the Thames. Though not open in the colder months for obvious reasons, you can still chase that chilled-out feeling with their sister establishment Big Foot on Cowley Road.

Keeping it simple, Big Foot serves Margherita cocktails and tacos – what more could you want?

In the dark evenings, Big Foot shines like a welcoming beacon offering delicious drinks, both alcoholic or not and delicious tacos, whether you want to have a make-shift aperitivo or a wee snack while you sip your spicy marg and catch up with friends.

To sweeten the deal, Big Foot has some offers to brighten up your mid-week. On Tuesdays, you get a free taco with every drink and on Wednesdays they are offering £5 margs, the perfect reason to plan a mid-week outing.

The tacos they serve are soft shell, so if you are looking for that crunch then this may not be the place for you. However, I personally prefer the soft shell versions as I find them easier to eat and they soak up all the tasty sauces. When I visited I had to try one of all the tacos: a carnitas taco – braised pork shoulder, pineapple, pickled red onion and coriander, this was probably one of my favourites. The oyster mushroom, quite self explanatory with a miso glaze, jalapeno cream and spring onion, then finally the chipotle chicken with chipotle mayo, white onion and coriander.

They were delicious bites of explosive flavour, but for £2.80 a taco, it quickly got quite expensive if you wanted a full meal out of them, as the tacos themselves are on the small side. So I wouldn’t recommend this if you are hungry and looking for dinner, rather for a small munch as you sip.

They have just added wine to the menu now, expanding their drink choices, and with the drinks and taco flavours changing routinely as well as offering breakfast burritos at the weekend, I am excited to be spending some of these colder nights yapping away with friends in a warm space with a marg in one hand and a taco in the other. If that is what winter looks like, then I cannot wait.
