In the same spot where the much-loved vegan café Eden once resided, a new restaurant has emerged after the site sat empty for quite a while. Moon Coffee brings the flavours of the Levant to Witney, serving up delicious Syrian cuisine. After a Bitten follower recommended it and with a stream of glowing five-star reviews on Google, we decided it was time to check it out.
It currently closes at 6 pm, so we opted for an early dinner. Hopefully, once it’s more established, it might open later in the evenings, it has the kind of vibe that would work really well as a relaxed, evening hangout.
First impressions: the interiors are bold, with a lot going on visually. But once inside, it really does transport you – like a slice of the Middle East on your doorstep, with a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
The staff were lovely and welcoming, and the space is spotless. It’s also got plenty of options for allergies and intolerances.
The menu is made for sharing, with a mezze-style selection that’s full of fresh, colourful dishes. Highlights for us were the mutabal -smoky grilled aubergine blended with tahini, yoghurt, lemon and garlic – and the spinach manakeesh, a soft flatbread topped with spinach, onion, sumac and pomegranate seeds. Both were packed with flavour and beautifully presented.
We also loved the chicken shawarma wrap: juicy, well-spiced, loaded with crisp salad and delicious chips. A great lunch option if you’re in town and need a quick bite.

Everything arrived together in vibrant mezze bowls, looking as good as it tasted. And the best part? It’s incredible value for money.

Whether you’re after a casual lunch, a place to catch up with friends over plates of fresh, flavour-packed food, or a bit of everything on a mezze platter, Moon Coffee is well worth a visit.
Don’t forget to check out the baklava selection at the counter on your way out!
