Sri Lankan food from an award-winning restaurant?! Well, that sounds intriguing! The Coconut Tree started off in Cheltenham as the brainchild of four young Sri Lankans who wanted to share their authentic Sri Lankan food. Between them, they renovated a pub and converted it into a restaurant which opened in December 2016. It rapidly became the number one restaurant in Cheltenham on Tripadvisor and now they’re expanding to Oxford, in the St Clements pub which until recently was Joe Perks.
We’ve heard good things already and will be popping down next week to get the low down but in the meantime, they’re opening tonight (Saturday 25th) from 6pm with a soft launch if you fancy giving it a try. I’ve already been recommended to try the cheesy colombo, devilled chicken wings and the beef, chicken and cheese Kotthu. Dishes range from £2.50 to £8 and it’s based on a tapas style of ordering. Plus kids under 10 eat free!
