Bitten Bites: Is Cheese Tea a thing?

28th July 2018 by Jacqui Thorndyke Leave a Comment BlogFOOD TRENDS

I love cheese. I love strong, creamy cheddar, oozy baked Camembert, almost spicy stilton, stringy melted gouda, basically most cheeses, especially when melted. I have never thought, however, of dolloping some on top of my coffee.

So when I started seeing articles about cheese tea popping up in my feed, my stomach turned several times over.

Apparently, the drink started in Asia, where it took off, followed by the US. The beverage has now made its way to the UK, with Happy Lemon smoothie and juice bar in Chinatown offering “green tea with cream crown” according to an article in The Guardian.

Thankfully, it seems, the cheese in question is a whipped cream cheese and can be served with other tea varieties, including matcha and chocolate. The ever-popular combination of sweet and salty being the end result, I’d be up for giving the matcha or chocolate versions a go. A quick search on Instagram reveals numerous hits for the incoming hipster trend along with cheese tea ‘taches.

It’s time for cheese!🧀 A glass of our Dark Cocoa Cheesetea a day, keeps the bad thoughts away. . . . #eatandtreats #anakjajan #myfunfoodiary #jktfoodies #wethefoodies #foodies #jktfoodbang #jktfooddestination #jktgo #manualjakarta #cheesecream #somethingcheesy #cheeseporn #foodporn #foodgasm #milktea #kulinerjakarta #kulinertangerang #kamutea #thaicheesetea #matchacheesetea #matcha #thaitea #cheesetea
