Where on earth did January go?! We have no idea either.
Well, February is here and it’s time to think about where you’re going for Valentine’s/ Palentine’s/ Galentine’s or whatever you want to call it. A nice excuse to eat some nice food and maybe have a cheeky cocktail or seven with your loved ones and we’re here with a list of some of the spots the Bitten team are going to check out this month.
Pierre Victoire
9 Little Clarendon St, Oxford OX1 2HP
pierrevictoire.co.uk
A favourite amongst the Bitten team, the Prix Fixe menu means you’ll get a top-quality meal for a really decent price. The whole candles and flowers and romantic french vibe doesn’t hurt either.
The Punter
7 South St, Oxford OX2 0BE
www.thepunteroxford.co.uk
Oxford’s first totally veggie/vegan pub and they certainly don’t disappoint. There’s a dish that involves both pasta and burrata and to be honest that’s enough to have us sold.
Arbequina
72-74 Cowley Rd, Oxford OX4 1JB
arbequina.co.uk
Tasty tapas, punchy cocktails and a very cool setting along good old Cowley Road. Gets booked up quickly though so get in there pronto!
Silvie
Browns Guest House, 281 Iffley Rd, Oxford OX4 4AQ
www.silvie.co.uk
Popping into Silvie’s is like walking into a warm friendly hug – the perfect spot for a cute coffee and cake date. I have a long-standing love affair with Silvie’s custard tarts which will probably never end.
Ben’s cookies
108-109, Covered Market, Oxford OX1 3DZ
benscookies.com
Need a last-minute Valentine’s gift that is sure to go down well? A box of Ben’s Cookies is 100% the answer. Also, it’s totally acceptable to just buy a box for yourself- self-love and all that right?
Table 13
table13oxford.uk
If you’re looking for something a bit different, book yourself into one of Table 13’s plant-based supper club-style evenings. The food and the accompanying drinks are next-level tasty and it’s such a special and unique way of going out to eat.
G&D cafes
gdcafe.com
Ice cream is way too good to only eat in the summer, plus in the winter it doesn’t drip down your arm. Why not grab a cheeky G&Ds with your valentine and go for a stroll around all the beaut Oxford buildings?
Pompette
7 S Parade, Summertown, Oxford OX2 7JL
pompetterestaurant.co.uk
‘Pompette’ is a french word for ‘tipsy’ and I think that’s reason enough to go and visit this restaurant and wine bar. If that isn’t enough though, just scroll through their instagram photos, that’ll probably do it.
Handle Bar Cafe
28-32, St Michael’s St, Oxford OX1 2EB
handlebaroxford.co.uk
The weekend tapas and cocktail nights have recently started up again and we are SO excited. Caramelised orange and figs? Drooling…
Wilding
11-12 Little Clarendon St, Oxford OX1 2HP
www.wilding.wine
I don’t think you can do a Valentine’s guide without including a restaurant that has wine EVERYWHERE. Wilding is the perfect place for a glass or five with your fave person (the food is pretty spot on too). They’re also hosting a chocolate and wine event close to Valentine’s which sounds horrendous (obviously a joke, I’m booking my place now.)
There are so many fabulous spots to eat and drink across Oxford that of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list. We’d love for you to comment where you’re planning to go this month if it’s not on here, or what you thought if you do go anywhere on this list. Happy Valentine’s to you!
