Sl’ice, the al fresco pizza and gelato terrace at The Bull in Burford, originally launched in August 2025 and is now back open for the summer season. Its co-creator, Michele Pascarella, was named Pizza Maker of the Year 2025 for his work at Napoli on the Road in Chiswick, and teamed up with executive chef Anshu Anghotra to bring the alfresco pizza-and-gelato concept to the Cotswolds.

The Bull Burford is the epitome of cool. It’s bold, beautiful and a masterclass in interior design. I’d previously had a very good meal in the main restaurant, but this time I was back to try the pizza.
Sl’ice offers a Naples-inspired dining experience. Everything is homemade, and the ingredients are of the highest quality. The prices might feel fairly high, but for the quantity and quality, I think they’re completely justified, and it feels worth it for the overall experience.
We ordered the Margherita (£15), the Cheesy Garlic Bread with Aleppo chilli oil and parsley (£10), and the White Capricciosa with fior di latte, prosciutto cotto, Napoli salami, artichokes, shiitake mushrooms, Gaeta olives and black pepper (£19).
The cheesy garlic bread was piled high with mozzarella, gloriously stringy and indulgent.
We also enjoyed the oversized silver scissors provided to cut the pizzas with, a fun little touch. The chilli oil cut through the richness of the cheese perfectly and added a lovely little kick.

The pizza dough was cooked perfectly, slightly charred around the edges, beautifully pillowy and doughy, but with a thin base through the middle. The crusts were perfect for mopping up the intensely garlicky homemade dipping sauce.
To drink, we ordered a glass of wine and the most beautiful Wild Lavender & Honey mocktail. The colour and presentation were absolutely stunning.
The front of house manager recognised me from my last visit and took such great care of us. He smiled and said, “I’m just going to assume you’d like dessert.” Give this man a pay rise. He then brought over complimentary tasters from their gelato cart (normally £4.50 per scoop). We sampled every flavour available that evening, although the selection changes regularly. There was Alphonso mango, 70% dark chocolate chip (vegan), Piedmont hazelnut, raspberry ripple, chocolate cookie dough and a wonderfully refreshing granita.
They were all delicious. My favourites were the raspberry ripple and the cookie dough and, much to my surprise, the vegan dark chocolate, which was absolutely divine. I loved the crunchy chocolate chips throughout. The granita and mango were incredibly refreshing too.
I genuinely felt like a kid in a sweet shop. What a way to end a wonderful evening on The Bull’s terrace.

The outdoor kitchen area creates a real sense of theatre, while the terrace itself has impeccable summer vibes, a great soundtrack and brilliant service. With a medley of different languages being spoken around us, for a moment, it genuinely felt like we were on holiday,
We’ll definitely be back. And if, like us, you can’t quite finish your pizza, they’ll happily box it up for you to take home.
Open Thursday to Sunday from midday until 9pm, booking ahead is advised at weekends. It’s very dog-friendly too; Ralphie had three courses’ worth of treats!
