Review: Permit Room’s Festive Feast

4th December 2024 by Chiara Nunzet Leave a Comment AD - Gifted, BlogCHRISTMAS/ CURRY/ FEAST/ GROUP MEAL/ NEWS/ Oxford/ restaurant/ REVIEW

I can’t believe it’s actually December, my brain is still catching up with August. But it’s happening, Christmas is round the corner, and we just had our Bitten Christmas do at none other than very new to town Dishoom’s Permit Room.

I imagine a lot of you have been already, as every time I walk past, whatever time of day, it’s BUSY.

We clearly had a Dishoom shaped hole in our hearts Oxford, and they’re now filling it right up..with delicious curry and all the trimmings.

Right, straight to the deal so you can run off quickly and book a table, because this is probably the best value feast I’ve come across in a while.

£37 per person for a HUGE amount of food

Everything you see on that menu above (vegetarian menu also available) is what you get. There’s no ‘pick one dish for each course’ instruction, they just bring it all out. All of our jaws were on the floor when we saw how much food was coming to our table. The feast includes starters, three curries, sides and a dessert. The portions are hefty too (we took extras home in doggy bags!) and word on the street is if you’re still hungry, they’ll bring you out more. I KNOW!

If you’re already well versed in Dishoom, the menu features some of the classics (Chicken Ruby and the famous Black Daal) but with some new festive additions (Turkey Raan Biryani, INSIDE a pastry. Honestly – heaven).

All the punchy and rich flavours you’re used to, with a festive sprinkling of fun on top.

It’s the perfect set up for a work do, a double date, girly night out

The sharing element makes it feel really festive and wholesome (and so do the very sturdy christmas hats you’re given!)

Bitten crew seal of approval – YES

We were all very happy (and full) bunnies as we walked/rolled out the door with our leftovers. The finishing touch of a mango lassi soft serve was exactly the refreshing finish we needed. I don’t think we would’ve managed a dessert any heavier than that after all those mains!

We also wanted to note that they were extremely accommodating of our writer Rob who has recently gone gluten-free, they checked every dish ahead of serving and brought him satisfying alternatives when necessary, which they would do for all allergies.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your pals and get booking.

And remember, until the 8 December the Dishoom Matka game has a spicy Christmas twist. Book a Festive Feast, flash your Permit Room Matka token, and you’ll be offered a roll of the dice. Starting from 12pm daily, one lucky roller per booking can take their shot. Roll a 6? Your meal is free (up to £1000). If you don’t have a Matka token? Just ask for one on your next visit or pick one up when you arrive for your feast.
