Review: Cinnamon Kitchen Takeaway

23rd September 2020 by Hannah Bond Leave a Comment AD - Gifted, BlogCURRY/ TAKEAWAYS & DELIVERIES

I still think of the Oxford Westgate restaurants as ‘new’. Even though they’re not any more. Yet I’ve never managed to get to Cinnamon Kitchen. I am still very firmly ‘at home’ in the madness of 2020, so I am always delighted to discover that a new restaurant is offering a takeaway service. So the news that Cinnamon Kitchen would provide me with a meal to eat in my living room was very happy news indeed!

The Cinnamon Kitchen takeaway menu is filled with appealing-sounding dishes.

It’s not a very long menu, but there were plenty of things we wanted to eat on there. I also really like that allergies and whether things are vegan or vegetarian are very clearly marked.

The chicken tikka starter was tasty and the meat tender, although it felt a little thrown together with its accompaniments. The prawns (or shrimp as they call them) were more impressive; plump and warming, full of flavour.

We tried one of the vegan mains, the cauliflower and potato curry, which was satisfying but a bit of a blast of spice, feeling mainly hot rather than particularly subtle or interesting. The fish curry was lovely though, the fish itself perfectly cooked and the sauce rich and more-ish.

I love when an Indian restaurant offers good desserts.

I thought I’d fall for the ginger toffee pudding here, but actually I was a little sad it didn’t come with much of the caramel sauce advertised. Although there was a little, it had mostly soaked into the sponge, not leaving us with a rich puddle of sauce around the pudding. The surprise winner of the battle was the mango shrikhand, spiked with blueberries and cardamom, which was comfortingly delicious: I could have eaten many bowls of it.

The food we had from Cinnamon Kitchen was good, although we didn’t love all of it. I think it might be a case here of ordering well: I am sure there are lots of gems on the menu that we didn’t get to sample. I’d also love to go to the restaurant one day and try the food in its natural habitat. Although it does seem like that day may be a bit of a way off…
