Wild Venison and Game is part of a professional deer management business in Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire. Owner, Justin, recently dropped off a box of their venison for me to test out. A few weeks in, and I’ve already ordered more to stock the freezer with. – Jacqui

Our venison is wild, British, and local. It’s lean, low fat, low cholesterol and high in protein, iron, zinc and vitamin B. It’s a versatile and sustainable meat, harvested in its natural environment.
Deer are selectively harvested at the right time of year, inspected, tagged, butchered, packed and distributed by us. We know how important it is to have full control from start to finish, ensuring a product of the highest quality. Our other game is selected personally by us from local estates and farms.
Our 5-star butchers unit was purpose-built centrally to all our management grounds, to reduce food miles. This, combined with ‘local only’ delivery and 90% recyclable packaging, helps us to be environmentally conscious, too.

Jacqui’s Review Notes:
I’ve been testing the venison and have to say it’s been excellent; lean meat with a real abundance of flavour. I’ve made everything from bolognese (the best I’ve made at home so far) to roasts, kebabs, sausage & mash, burgers, and more.
It’s something I’ll happily keep the freezer topped up with, alongside other meats, to make use of as part of everyday meals. Buying through a local deer manager means it’s not just cheaper than buying from a supermarket, it’s also ultra-local – supporting a local indie business and reducing food miles.
If you give it a go yourself I recommend a mixed box with various cuts, plus mince, burgers, and sausages.
Top tip: if you make bolognese with the mince, add a splash of milk towards the end of cooking, you won’t regret it!
Our wild venison, like most wild meat, isn’t subjected to the intensive farming practices of today’s modern world. It was probably harvested in or around the area in which it was born, freely roamed, growing on a natural diet free of antibiotics and growth hormones.
We have four species of deer available locally, dependent on the season: Fallow, Roe, Muntjac, and Chinese Water Deer.
