Thursday 8th October sees Oxford host it’s first latte art competition, in the form of The Ox Barista Slam. A knock out winner-takes-all event run by Ue Coffee, held at Joe Perks & Co in St Clements, the action kicks off from 7.30pm and promises beers, hotdogs, a DJ and an MC.
The Slam will be a showcase of talent, skill and nerves. With a bit of fun. There is room for 32 competitors who will face each other in one-on-one best pour wins with a £500 cash prize. The pours will be dictated by the latte art dice used at this year’s Coffee Masters event at the London Coffee Festival. This will make it a more even playing field as both barista’s will only have one pour of the same thing.
The winner is chosen by the symmetry, placement and definition of their designs, judged purely on look not taste. David Train, Manager at Ue, along with three-time UK Latte Art Champion Dhan Tamang will be judging the contest with one other judge.
So far baristas are competing from London, Nottingham an all over Oxfordshire, with some spaces left for more to apply. Up for the challenge? Entry costs £10 and includes an official slam t-shirt, you can apply here
