Support Ogglio for their 2021 Kickstarter

Local oil aficionado, Giuseppe Trapani, is back with his 2021 Kickstarter, raising money for his next Ogglio olive oil harvest.

You may remember we featured Giuseppe back in 2019, when he was raising funds for the harvest that year. He now needs your support again to bring this award-winning oil back for 2021!

Ogglio: The story

Giuseppe inherited his family’s small century-old olive oil grove in Sicily, and decided to make a go of it. He produces, bottles and imports his Sicilian Extra Virgin Olive Oil to the UK. After a few successful trials via Kickstarter campaigns, he decided to fund a Social Enterprise, OGGLIO, so that he could produce his olive oil in Sicily in a collaborative way, helping the local small-scale farmers who have been badly hit by the pandemic as well as the local unemployed and migrants from Africa.

Why it’s so good…

This is artisanal extra virgin olive oil is produced in the Belice Valley in Sicily from olives grown, harvested, and pressed locally. This is all undertaken on the same day of picking, within a five-mile radius from the grove.

The olive trees are of the Nocellara cultivar, arguably one of the world’s finest varieties, and were planted more than a century ago, by his great-grandfather. They are still tended organically today, without the use of any pesticides or artificial irrigation systems.

Every year, the olives are harvested entirely by hand and collected early in the picking season, when they are greener and not fully ripe. This yields a smaller quantity of oil, but as a result produces a more intense flavour: imagine squeezing a bunch of fresh olives in your hands.

In 2021, Giuseppe’s olive oil has won numerous awards against very fierce competitors:

  • 1 Star at the Great Taste Awards in the UK
  • Silver Medal at the International Olive Oil Contest in Italy
  • Bronze Medal at the London International Olive Oil Competition in the UK
  • Bronze Medal at the Berlin Global Olive Oil Awards in Germany
  • Bronze Medal at the International Olive Oil Competition in Canada

These awards were given for the overall quality of the olive oil, not just its taste, but also its healthiness, as it’s incredibly rich in polyphenols an oleocanthal.

Get supporting…

Giuseppe is hoping to raise £19,000, which is essential to getting the next harvest off the ground; this target must be reached, as under Kickstarter rules, achieving our stated funding goal is all-or-nothing!

The campaign closes on Friday the 5th of November 2021 @ 23h59, so pledge to the campaign now!

The aim is to deliver before Christmas: making this a great present, and they will be delivering anywhere in the UK with FREE shipping.
