Best Afternoon Tea in Oxford

19th March 2014 by Jacqui Thorndyke Leave a Comment Best For, BlogAFTERNOON TEA/ BEST FOR/ Oxford

We’re always here to help… especially when what you need is CAKE!  Not just any cake though, a pretty selection of lovely little cakes, alongside scones, dainty little finger sandwiches and an endless supply of tea.

So in no particular order, here’s a rundown of where in Oxford is best for Afternoon Tea.

The Randolph Hotel

Beaumont St, Oxford OX1 2LN, 01865 256410

Possibly the most traditionally sophisticated venue in the whole of Oxford to enjoy afternoon tea. Choose from Cream Tea, Afternoon Tea and Full Celebration Tea, from £10.60 to £33.50 per person, while overlooking The Ashmolean museum from the comfort of The Drawing Room. Multiple varieties of loose tea to select from, delicious and dainty petit fours (no big hunks of cake here)

The Old Parsonage

1 Banbury Road, Oxford OX2 6NN, 01865 310210

Even though they aren’t due to open until the day after Mother’s Day, you can’t do a Best Afternoon Tea list without including The Old Parsonage. Part of the Mogford Group alongside Quod and The Old Bank, The Old Parsonage is already well known for its afternoon teas, though after it’s refurbishment it promises “a brand new dedicated pastry section in the kitchen will further enhance our reputation as Oxford’s number one destination for afternoon tea in the city”. Sounds good to us!

The Grand Cafe

84 High St, Oxford OX1 4BG, 01865 204463

Great cream teas and pastries with the added benefit that if you linger too long over that Lapsang Souchong, they do excellent cocktails in the evening!

The Rose

51 High Street, Oxford OX1 4AS 01865 244429

Definitely one of our favourites for afternoon tea. Hot and big scones (fruit free) with real clotted cream that you have to break the crust of and sweet, tart jam. A great selection of homemade cakes, sandwiches and over 15 teas are available for you to choose from. Just don’t plan on going out to dinner afterwards! The £12.50 tea is excellent value, tea, sandwiches, scone and a slice of cake but money is no object when it comes to mothers, right??!

Quod

92-94 High Street, Oxford OX1 4BJ, 01865 202505
quod.co.uk
For something really special, afternoon tea with champagne in one of Oxford’s most Oxford-like restaurants! Have crab, cucumber or ham and mustard sandwiches with a scone, a slice of cake and choose your own tea all washed down with a lovely glass of perfectly chilled fizz for £22.95. Served from 3- 5.30pm.
