Review: The Shake and Sweet Shop

7th July 2025 by Jemma Smith Leave a Comment Best For, BlogCHILD FRIENDLY/ ICE CREAM/ INDEPENDENTS/ SWEETS/ WITNEY

There’s a small but mighty spot in Market Square in Witney that’s packed to the rafters with joy.

The Shake & Sweet Shop – known to some residents as the little blue shop – is exactly what it sounds like: a haven for milkshake lovers, ice cream fans, those with a sweet tooth, and anyone in need of a little pick-me-up.

The variety on offer is huge. There’s Mr Whippy’s, scooped ice cream, screwballs, frozen yoghurt, and trays of soft serve with toppings affectionately known as “Witney Whizzards.” You can also build your own milkshake from a huge list of chocolate bars, cakes, biscuits and sweets, or cool off with a flavoured slushie. If you’re someone with dietary needs or allergies, you’ll be pleased to know they have a nut-free milkshake blender, vegan ice cream, and also offer milkshakes made with oat or soya milk. They’ve thought of just about everyone – including the  dog, who can enjoy a frozen yoghurt or doggie ice cream of their own.

But it’s not just about cold treats.

The sweet shop side is just as impressive, with shelves lined with old-school jars of sweets, chocolate bars behind the counter, and plenty of quirky favourites like Push Pops, Toxic Waste and even a Pickle in a Pouch. Whilst my days of eye wateringly sour sweets and pickles is over (I’m much more of a milk bottle and white chocolate mice girlie now), the variety is fun to ogle over. It’s the kind of place where kids (and grown-ups) could spend ages just deciding what to choose.

As summer rolls in and celebrations start stacking up, the end of school term, exam results day etc., it’s good to know they also offer vouchers, themed sweet pouches and “good luck” jars that make perfect little presents. I picked up a vegan milkshake voucher for Father’s day, and I can’t wait to make this shop part of our yearly routine, bringing my little one here after their last day of school before summer feels like the start of a new family tradition.

And if you’re not local or want to send someone a sugary surprise, you can still get your fix online. The shop has a website packed with sweet gift ideas available for delivery – or your recipient can collect at their shop in Witney.

Full of old school charm, with lots of variety and guaranteed smiles throughout the summer.
