Waste 2 Taste is a social enterprise which donates 25% of the overall profit to a local charity supporting homeless and vulnerably housed people. They are a busy catering service and community café that use food surplus as their main source of ingredients. Founders, Sandra and Marie, have a combined 20 years of working in the charity sector. They are fiercely passionate about food waste and supporting vulnerable members of their community. There is currently no other permanent commercial establishment in Oxford using its main source of food from food surplus/potential waste, so their menu changes daily depending on what food becomes available.
Menus in the café and catering service are entirely vegetarian and vegan. They provide healthy nutritious, delicious and affordable food, with an ethical and sustainable approach and they have a “never waste anything approach.”
“12 million tonnes of food are wasted every year in the UK alone and if we stopped wasting food it would be the CO2 equivalent of taking 1 in 4 cars off the road” – Love Food Hate Waste
Waste 2 Taste support the homeless and vulnerably housed community through training and mentoring, by developing a program called ‘Cooking for Health and Wellbeing’, enabling homeless and vulnerably housed people to make the best use of good food and improve all aspects of health and wellbeing. They promote and ensure good health and community spirit.
