We’ve been seeing more and more four-legged friends around Oxford recently (much to my delight!). So, we thought it only fair to put together a list of the best dog-friendly pubs and restaurants across the city to grab a bite or a bev.
We’ll keep adding to this list as we discover more spots – do get in touch if we’ve missed any of your faves!
So, in no particular order, here are our favourite dog friendly pubs and restaurants in and around Oxford.
The Fishes is a great pub with ample green space for your fluffy friend to enjoy. Dogs are welcome outside or even snuggled up next to you in the bar area. The Fishes have a great events calendar with lots of exciting things coming up in Autumn (Oktoberfest & Bonfire night as two examples…) so definitely worth checking out asap!

Handle Bar is a fab independent café and restaurant in the centre of town where you can take your pooch along with you. They serve brunch all day and tapas in the eve. The winning aspect for me is all the cool bikes hanging off the ceiling – very aesthetically pleasing!
📍 28-32, St Michael’s St, Oxford OX1 2EB, 01865 251315, handlebaroxford.co.uk
A family-run wood-fired pizza joint close to Farmoor reservoir. The idea for this cosy place was born in lockdown when the family decided to convert their log cabin into a takeaway pizza place – genius! They have some outdoor tables with fire pits where you can sit, munching on a Neapolitan style pizza alongside your furry friend – dreamy?!

A café with a VIEW and a half! If you sit outside, you’ll be looking directly at the gorgeous Radcliffe Camera (potentially my fave view in Ox.) Not only do they welcome your doggo, they also serve incredible cakes and a huge variety of hot and cold food throughout the day.

Every time I’ve set foot in the Perch, there have been pups galore. The huge garden is the perfect setting for your furry pal and they’ll even provide a water bowl. The pub garden backs onto Port Meadow, so it really is the perfect spot for a post-dog walk pint or bite to eat. It goes without saying that the food for humans is pretty tasty too.
📍 Binsey Lane, Oxford, OX2 0NG, 01865 728891, the-perch.co.uk
Part of the beloved Dodo Pubs group, the Rickety Press even have biscuits for your furry friend – talk about VIP treatment. The Rickety Press offer up a great selection of pizzas and burgers and now have a brand new outdoor space – perfect for your pooch to explore! We’d recommend checking the other Dodo Pubs too, we recently visited the new Part & Parcel Witney which you can read about here.

An award-winning 17th-century restaurant and pub in Wytham. It’s become even more dog friendly over the last year or so as they now have an extended covered outdoor space with cool dining pods – more space for more pooches! A great choice for a Sunday roast.
I have a slight soft spot for this gorge pub as it’s the first place I had a pint after moving to Oxford during lockdown. The Bear & Ragged Staff is a mega cosy, Cotswold vibe pub and restaurant (that also has rooms!) where you and your hound can spend hours chilling out.
📍 28 Appleton Rd, Cumnor, Oxford OX2 9QH, 01865 862329, bearandraggedstaff.com
The home of copious amounts of wine, good food and gorgeous interiors… and they also welcome dogs! Look out for their special oyster Fridays too which are proving v popular. Wilding will be popping up in one of our next listicles soon so watch this space…
We visited when Wilding first opened, read what we thought here.

Located just in front of the Natural History Museum, Horsebox Coffee (converted out of an actual horsebox!) is the perfect place to stop for a refuel during your culture vulture museum day. The best bit? They even have biscuits for your pooch. Horsebox roast their own coffee right here in Oxfordshire, at their Dark Horse Roastery, you can find out more here.
Another great pub that welcomes your floofy friend. The Chester Arms’ menu is an impressive one – the steak platter is a MUST (some say it is life-changing!) and there are always really great veggie and vegan options on the menu.
📍 19 Chester St, Oxford OX4 1SN, 01865 790438, thechesterarmsoxford.co.uk
A pub in beloved Jericho with great outdoor seating, live music, student discount on selected drinks AND dog friendly.. what’s not to love!? A great selection of burgers and wings – good vegan options too!
📍 56 Walton St, Oxford OX2 6AE, 01865 311775, thejerichooxford.co.uk
Happy Friday Kitchen was the first all-vegan spot in Oxford and WHAT a spot it is. A colourful and vibrant cafe serving up all the vegan goodness – hot dogs, pizzas, buddha bowls… they even do vegan pick’n’mix sweets!? A great place to take your doggo.

LOTS of great coffee, a mega tasty vegan brunch menu, lush cocktails and you can take your furry companion. Green Routes is a collaboration between Greenbox food co (plant-based street food pioneers) and Routes Coffee roasters and what a great collab it is!
