Sushi delivery landed in Oxford with the arrival of Taberu and Sushi Corner, both on Cowley Road, a few years ago. I’ve been an avid fan of Taberu ever since, to the point where I’ve fallen into the habit of a ‘usual order’ of spider roll and salmon sashimi. When our good friends at Goujon Monkey told us about a new sushi delivery company in Kidlington they’d discovered, called Roll With Me Sushi, I was more than happy to give it a whirl.
Run by Sue Cole, Roll With Me currently offers sushi-making parties to host in your own home, sushi platters for event and corporate catering, along with sushi deliveries across Kidlington, Woodstock & surrounding villages. For residential deliveries outside of Kidlington, there is a minimum spend, usually in the region of £20. For event catering, Sue will deliver all over Oxford, and for the sushi parties, there is no travel cost within 10 miles of Kidlington.
For the sushi delivery service, deliveries are available Wednesday lunch & evening and Friday evening (no minimum order required) all other evenings deliveries are available for a minimum of £20 spend. A new menu is published weekly, with orders emailed to rollwithmesushi@gmail.com the day before delivery is required.
Roll With Me Sushi – Menu Example
Sue was kind enough to deliver a selection of samples, which included edamame beans, hosomaki, some absolutely delicious inari tofu pouches, egg nigiri, one of my favourites – katsu prawn rolls, perfectly neat uramaki, and a sesame shitake maki roll.
The rice was cooked and seasoned exactly as it should be, with a good ratio of rice to filling, not too light-handed on the filling. Everything tasted as fresh as a daisy, all neatly and professionally presented, with micro herbs she grows herself.
I’ve been back for more since, placing a whopper of an order for a Thursday night, so I could try as much as possible! I got everything in the picture below for under £30, including delivery and a couple of newly added dorayaki to try complimentary. Particularly worth note were the excellent spicy chicken uramaki, generously filled and spiked with heat; the plump, juicy, umami-rich miso aubergine (nasu dengaku); my new favourite tofu pockets (inari); and sesame green beans, which I hadn’t tried before but would definitely reorder.
The seaweed salad (goma wakame) was easily on par with any I’d had in a restaurant setting, and to be quite honest, as were all of the other dishes I’ve sampled.
If you’re a fan of sushi and Japanese food, give this one a try. Let’s get Sue so busy she can open her own restaurant – fingers crossed it’ll be close enough I can still get my deliveries though!
