We caused a bit of a stir on Twitter and Facebook recently when we exclusively announced that Atomic Burger was closing – temporarily! Well, it has now moved (two doors up where Route 66 used to be) and oh my gosh, it’s awesome! It’s no secret that we, along with many others, are big fans of the Atomic ethos. Great settings, childhood memories, thick proper milkshakes and amazing burgers with a huge and occasionally bonkers array of toppings. But if they got it wrong, we’d all tell them just like we told Cadburys earlier this week (do NOT mess with the egg!)
Luckily the Atomic boys, James and Martin, have done a cracking job and I’m pleased to say new Atomic is even better than original Atomic! The decor is fab and is actually organised now, which kind of takes away the joy of spotting a Star Wars figure in amongst My Little Pony but it also makes so much more sense and for me, with a fairly heavy case of OCD, makes me smile inside and out.
You’ll spot the hoverboard that we’ve all been waiting for this year, Castle Greyskull, the turtles crashing through the walls, Alien, the Fraggles hanging from the lights, a Clone Trooper on guard alongside Darth Vader, Ariel (looking like she’s had A Very Good Night), Tetris lights, Carbonite Hans and Spidey crawling along the ceiling and much, much more. Including an actual bar – no more stacks of drinks in the loo corridor!
There is room now for more customers and they’re hoping to open the downstairs area soon once it’s completely Atomicised.
Most importantly – is the food still good? I took one for the team and visited on opening night where we had a Bandit burger, an Outlaw, a Dead Elvis, trailerpark fries, nachos, sweet potato fries, onion rings, barbecue chicken wings, truffle shuffle milkshake and a butterscotch milkshake and it was all suitably awesome. Phew! New menu will be coming soon so if you have a particular favourite – start lobbying for it now! And the famous carbonara burger, TK-421 will be back as the February special, no special for January so why not go Boris Karloff and make your own? I can recommend red jalapenos, meatballs and tumbleweed onions…
Atomic Burger can now be found at 92 Cowley Road, Oxford OX4 1JE

You haven’t said where Atomic Burger has moved to. Where can I find them now?
