Monday 10th August saw The Rickety Press in Jericho close for what’s planned to be more than a simple lick of paint. Not only is the restaurant getting a minor refurbishment, it’s also getting a new ethos. Set to reopen on 21st August at 5pm, expect a more relaxed ‘community’ place to hang out, with weekly pub quizzes and regular live music, plus the move from table ordering to bar ordering – which will mean money otherwise spent on staff costs will instead go towards reducing the price of food & drink and offering appetising promotions. There will also be the occasional specially themed night that will bring steaks or pit-smoked bbq from their smokestack which currently resides at The Rusty Bicycle.
The food menu will see some changes too, after clear direction from customer demands (i.e menu orders), with a step away from gastro towards a more casual burger, buns and, most notably, Neapolitan pizza offering. Rickety are taking delivery of a gorgeous wood-fired pizza oven, all the way from Napoli. With the oven comes the promise of beautiful pizzas, made with slow risen dough produced with ‘OO’ pizza flour milled in Napoli, San Marzano tomatoes grown in the soil around Mt. Vesuvius and Fior di latte (Mozzarella) made with cows milk. Firing at 500c, the new wood guzzler will cook a pizza in 90secs flat. Sounds perfect for a quickie. A quickie meal! Tut tut…
Alongside a brand new burger, buns and pizza selection, there will be salads, snacks, homemade ice creams, cakes on the Bar and their usual spread of deserts. And if that isn’t already enough there will also be a new brunch menu, served up on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays between 10am-3pm.
Those familiar with Rickety’s sister pub in East Oxford, The Rusty Bicycle, will recognise the format; as the two popular local pubs become more in sync. You know damn well if the pizzas are as good as those at Rusty, then Jericho is in for a treat.
Look out for some great deals when Rickety reopens, including ALL FOOD HALF PRICE for the first weekend, then 50% off selected burgers on Mondays and 50% off selected pizzas Tuesday to Friday lunchtimes. Plus there will be a new cocktail menu which will be available during happy hour every weekday from 5-7pm.
