Tucked away in Crawley Village, just outside Witney, is The Lamb Inn; a gastropub serving takeaway food.
We frequented it almost every week without fail pre-lockdown, as they serve up delicious seasonal meals with locally sourced ingredients, and provide consistently great service and high standards all round. After lockdown began, the pub launched a small takeaway menu; and whilst enjoying a quick drink in their beautiful newly refurbished garden we’d noticed their rotisserie chicken oven. We knew immediately it was a must-try!
The next weekend, we were due to go to Luna outdoor cinema at Blenheim Palace. We wanted a quick and delicious meal before going out, to save cooking and give us a night off; so ordered a rotisserie chicken for two, with chips and homemade aioli (£20). It didn’t disappoint.
The takeaway was well packaged, with the chicken already portioned for two in separate boxes. It was incredibly moist and meaty, tender and flavoursome, packed with chilli and garlic. The chicken skin wasn’t particularly crispy, but had taken on all of the flavours, and was an absolute delight to eat.
The chips tasted triple fried, crispy on the outside, fluffy in the inside! One might say you’re perfect accompaniment.
Their aioli divided opinion. Whilst Rachel loved the garlickly hit, I found it a bit on the mustardy side and used it sparingly.
It was a really generous portion for £20 and felt like a naughty treat. Next time we’ll be ordering puddings too!
In a nutshell: Nando’s on steroids, a must-try if you’re a local.
Their takeaway menu can be ordered Wednesday-Saturday 5.30pm – 8.30pm. Call ahead to book your slot.
