Oxford Beer Week returns for 2019 with a great line up of events starting from tomorrow, 4th of May through to the 12th. The Oxford Brewers Alliance, who were formed in 2014 by a group of local of breweries, are the ones behind the scenes putting this together.
The schedule for the week is packed with great events, kicking off tomorrow with the ‘Big Event’ at TOAD in Headington. If you haven’t heard of TOAD before, it stands for ‘The Oxford Artisan Distillery’, which has been producing top quality spirits from their distillery at the Old Depot on Cheney Lane since 2017 – I could spend a lot of time talking about TOAD but come and see them yourself on the 4th! The Big Event is split into 2 times 11:30 – 15:30 and 16:30 – 20:30 with both sessions having a great selection of beer, food and live music. Tickets are £10 per session – this gets you a programme, beer map and glass.
The Perch in Binsey have their 7th beer and cider festival on the 4th starting at 12:00 and runs over the whole Bank Holiday weekend. They promise to have an excellent line up of beer and ciders with great pub food and live music. Fingers crossed the weather will be as good as the last Bank Holiday.
Rounding off the 4th we have the Big Event After Party at Tap Social. Although this is an ‘after party’ it starts at 12 noon, with rotating DJs throughout the day and Luscious Lamb Food Truck providing sustenance.
That should be enough to keep everyone busy for the first day! To see the full line up for the week this can be found on the Oxford Brewers Alliance website here.
Some events are going to be running throughout the week, from the 5th, such as the Brewdog’s Local Beer Week and the Covered Market Beer and Food Matching Trail – which looks really interesting if you like your beer and food!
My picks for the week (apart from everything on the Saturday) are the Common Ground Beer Festival on Monday the 6th which is hosted on Little Clarendon Street from 2pm, Meet the Tank Drivers at The Plough at 38 on Thursday the 9th from 7 – 9pm, and the Vertical Beer Tasting at The Jolly Postboys on Friday the 10th from 7 – 8:30pm. I expect to be popping into Brewdog and visiting the Covered Market as well.
All in all, this looks like a great line up for the week. I will be reposting back with some highlights next week. Happy drinking!
