Earlier today I received a press release announcing the opening of a new restaurant in the place of Carluccio’s on Little Clarendon Street. A spokesperson for Carluccio’s has now confirmed this, providing the following quote to share:
After careful evaluation, a strategic decision has been made to assign our lease to Lussmans Fish & Grill, as the site is too small for our new Fresca format. We will be trading until late January and look forward to welcoming our many regular customers to our restaurant over the festive period. We will then commence looking for a larger site to allow us to return to Oxford in the future. The entire team have been offered positions at the new restaurant and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them, along with our customers, for their support and loyalty.
So yes, Carluccio’s is indeed set to close, and Lussmanns Sustainable Fish & Grill – voted one of The Times Top 100 Restaurants in the UK 2019 by Giles Coren – will take its place.
According to Lussmanns, their restaurants “make ethical and sustainable dining accessible on the High Street without the pomp and preach. The Oxford restaurant will continue this focus but will have its own personality and identity befitting of its location.”
They go on to say that “the Lussmanns’ menus are a celebration of seasonality, a passion for provenance and sustainably-sourced ingredients; Lussmanns is currently the only restaurant (group) in the UK to be fully accredited with an MSC-certified wild fish list whilst meat is organically-reared and there is an ever-growing vegan presence on the menu.
“Customers will be able to enjoy dishes such as Hunter’s Linguine with wild rabbit, free-range pancetta, oyster mushrooms and garlic; the signature Lussmanns MSC House Fishcake with baby spinach, caper and parsley butter sauce and a Chestnut Mushroom Fricassee with Jerusalem artichoke and purple potato crisps.”
